WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) — Officials in Florida announced Monday that a hacker came close to poisoning the city of Oldsmar by boosting caustic chemical levels during a breach of the computer system at the local water treatment plant.
It was a wake-up call, said Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri. “Water systems, like other public utility systems, are part of the nation’s critical infrastructure and can be vulnerable targets when someone desires to adversely affect public safety,” he said. …
